Summer vacation time is here and lots of people couldn't make it. The four who did had fun crusin' the web. Here's where we went.

Mozilla 1.0
This is the first official public release of the Mozilla web browser suite based on thesource Gecko engine (which also powers the latest Netscape release). We used it to do all our subsequent web browsing, exploring its various features along the way. This browser suite is also the PCUGR July 2002 DOM.

Lindows
Lindows is a serious attempt to bring Linux to the desktop and challenge the dominant Windows position. This is the official Lindows site. What was really interesting was to go to the Wal-Mart link where you can purchase ready to go Lindows machines for very affordable prices (on-line only!).

PC Mag "Best" Solutions
This is a collection of tips for various using various Microsoft Office products. Some really cool tips for Power Point are listed here.

WOPR
Speaking of Office, and more specifically, MS Word, it always pays to check WOPR - Woody's Office Portal. Lots of good information about Word from a real Word guru.

Bates Label Maker
This is small, free MS Word template that makes it easy to create sequentially numbered labels for Avery 5267 labels. From the Payne Consulting Group.

Links for the Traveler
Three stops for the world traveler. For a selection of travel bags, including some tips on how to minimize wrinkles and maximize efficiency when packing, take a look at PackingLight.com. Need info on country voltages and transformers? Go to VoltageValet. And for help with the language, get a translation at Alta-Vista's Babelfish

DVD Links
With the emergence of affordable (well, almost) DVD recorders, it seemed like a good time to gather up some places for info about the bewildering formats in play at the moment. Try these: www.dvdform.org, www.dvdplusrw.org, Pioneer Press.

Bill Gates is Dead
Uh, well not really. But there is this little spoof film. From Nothing So Strange.

Longbets
Lots of people make predictions about the future. Most are wrong and most are just hot air. Not the folks at Longbets. These prognosticators put up real money behind their words. Some famous folks here. And the winner's prize gets donated to a worthy cause.

A bunch of places to find free images:

Sacramento PC User's Group
This used to be a really huge UG. It has contracted some, like the rest of us, but it is still kicking! Take a look and see what's still cooking at the Sacramento PCUG.

Gorilla
This is an old, old BASIC (DOS graphics) game that came with old IBM PCs. It's cute and little kids (and some big ones :-) get a kick out of it. More interestingly, it leads us to QBasic, the old BASIC interpreter - it's still available on on the Win9x CDs. Amazing.

Always-Freeware
Somehow the last topic lead us here. Another place to browse around for freeware.

Webpages that Suck
A rude name, but a good purpose: learning good design by looking at bad design. Webpages that Suck also became a book as well (now in it's 2nd edition) and is worth a visit for anyone who is contemplating creating a web page - or any sort of publication with graphics, too.

Ultratech Knowledge Base
Bookmark the Ultratech Knowledge Base site! It is filled with all sorts of tips and links. For example, you will find the lowdown on how to make an XP boot disk that actually boots you to XP.

Thanks to everyone who joined our meeting and to those who also chipped into the kitty for the goodies.
