Sure, you can use it. All I ask for in return is a credit, and a link
back to my page at www.stanstudio.com.
Enjoy....Sta

Notice:
Since this is the graphics page, it would be nice to design using more fonts.  The standard fonts that are shared between Netscape, MSIE, Apple and Intel are very limited.  I've always thought of the PCUGR site as global site and Steve Cerruti's original work was definitely targeted at as broad an audience as possible.  BUT NOT HERE!  This page uses the "standard" Microsoft fonts.  You can figure out what that means. I will list the fonts I'm using but I'm too tired tonight.  If it's a font I like, but "rare," I'll make a JPEG or GIF out of it. All the pages will still work under Netscape and Opera any way.

  What does this SIG Do?

This is a SIG-ling.  A "baby" SIG.   Just the very beginnings.  We avoid the question about it's growing up.  We don't know.  We're just going to keep an eye on it, but until then we would like to sponsor this Digital Imaging Showcase.  If you have images you would like to be show in a web gallery format, you can join the SIG, "baby" SIG, whatever.  You can just look around all you want and stop back often.

What's a digital artist without an audience?  Your one of the most important parts.

SIG is sponsored by Cecelia Ariaz and myself, Jim Bowers.

P.S.
I will be posting notices in the
PCUGR's Yahoo List when this page changes.  Stay Tuned.

Some of the Original Ideas:

How we going to have meetings?
Well, once things settle down, we can get in some face time, but the main stay right now will be a new PCUGR Yahoo Group that Jeff Basham will be setting up.  Stay tuned to this page for the exact name.  PCUGR-Digital would be a good choice.  We can post pictures with a Yahoo Group even though they are turned off for the PCUGR Group. The chat in that group will be mostly on images I have posted on the PCUGR site or your site  or my site or some service that all the members can get to.  The focus of the group will be to improve our technical skills.  Maybe find our artistic ability.

  Hey I don't have a Digital Camera!
Digital.  Digital Camera works.  Scanners work.  Art directly from a drawing program works.  Pixels in any combination.  Check this out.  Several leaves from my backyard on my scanner and some Photoshop.  This one was done from an old negative and my HP ScanJet XPA 5370C with active back light attachment.  See me? Okay, stop laughing. <grin>

What do we talk about?  Photoshop?
Anything digital.  Photoshop is very sophisticated.  I would expect some discussion there but Photoshop Elements would be more like it.  Because that is so reasonably priced right now, I would hope that we could use it as a common denominator. Paint Shop Pro works for most home chores and it supports layers.  There's a question!  What's a layer?  Some ideas might be images on the web.  A big topic would be how come when I print the images they don't look like the one's I saw on the screen.  Advice on purchases.  Experiences of any sort.  We just going to try it.

When we have regular meetings the plan is to have more of a teaching/educational format than other SIGs.  The beginning of each SIG will be dedicated to covering some topic of interest to the group by a presenter from the outside or maybe from a member of the SIG.  The Question and Answer period will come afterward and could cover things in the lecture or questions of general interest.  I would like to get professional photographers to give us a lesson.  I would like to see some of the teachers at SRJC give us a talk.

You know I took the survey this year.  Was this a big interest to club members?

Yes, it was.  In fact that was one of the things that encouraged me about doing the SIG in the first place.

What do you think of these ideas?

  • How about a photo contest with prizes?
  • How about we get together and do a field trip?  I love my Cannon 35 mm AE-1.  It's a museum piece.  Check Cannon's website.  Oh, I think they call it a classic. <grin>  You don't need a digital camera to have fun.  Take some pictures then maybe we cook some steaks.  What goes with steak?  beer.  Well, that's settled.
  • How about we learn about lighting and have a studio shoot?  My daughter Cassie is part of Art Quest at Santa Rosa High School.  They would love to have people take pictures of their performances, actually dress rehearsals, especially if we put them online.
  • How about we get some kids to help us carry all the stuff around!
  • Rawl's has his Shareware SIG at the Petaluma Marina.  That should make some great pictures!
  • Clear Lake?  Annadel Park?  Let's try shooting the Wednesday Night Market?  Think they'll notice us?

Anyway, I think it will work out.

Stay tuned.  Start shooting, scanning, creating, drawing and thinking.  You're about to be on-line.
You are coming aren't you?

Send me an e-mail and I will sign you up!  If you want, give me a list of topics you would like to see covered, what day of the week and time is best for meetings: face-to-face or a chat group.  Let me know if you have a webcam or use instant messaging AND the one thing you would really like to learn to do digitally.
